Before & After! Renovating a 100-Year Old Home
Everyone loves a great before & after, right?
Back in 2017, Pineridge Hollow’s owner, Jan Regehr purchased 48 acre plot of old farm land just down the road from our location. The goal was to develop the land into a regenerative farm to supply our restaurant with produce, chicken, pork and even flowers (now known as Oak Knoll Farm!). On the property there was also a grand house, originally built as a summer home in 1912. Jan’s daughter Katrina could see the potential in the old house and she dreamed of renovating it into a beautiful, bright home for her and her growing family.
But seeing as the home had been around for more than 100 years, there was a lot of work to do! The house had great bones and unique original details, but there were also some newer updates that had been done over time. Once Katrina and her husband, Trevor purchased the home they got to work on renovating and designing the spaces.
One of the best features was hardwood floors in lots of areas of the home, so one of the first projects was adding additional hardwoods to create a cohesive flow throughout the house. There were also lots of wood details on the walls, but the whole space was very dark and making the rooms feel brighter was a priority. A few coats of white paint throughout the house made everything look more updated.

The large cabinet in the dining space was part of the original kitchen. Katrina & Trevor loved the history and style of the piece, and gave it a facelift with a new countertop, hardware and some paint.

Over time they switched around some of our furniture in the sitting room to make it suit their lifestyle better.
“The sectional and chairs is so functional in our home with 3 small children. We chose to go without a coffee table while we have young children, so that we can use the floor space to play.”
The sectional they chose is from Lee Industries and offers a large comfortable sitting space for their family of 5. The fabric they chose is a textured neutral that feels cozy and casual yet still clean and tidy, called France Oatmeal. Decorative baskets with lids act as toy storage while the large refinished cabinet also acts as storage for toys and books as well as other home decor and dishes.

As with any 100+ year old home, Katrina says the house is an ongoing work in progress. While the exterior of the home still looks quite similar to the original, the interior is hardly a reflection of its former self.
