Staff Favourites
With continuing time on our hands, many of us are looking for new ways to keep occupied and entertained. We asked our staff for their favourite blogs, apps and inspiration that they like to visit regularly. From exercise to design inspiration to recipes...here is what they had to share!
Emily - Florist
Calm app - "Sleep stories are especially helpful these days."
Stop, Breathe & Think app - "Daily meditations - keeping a healthy mind has always been important for me, but even more so now."
Ponderosa & Thyme @ponderosa_and_thyme - "My favourite florist from Oregon has also been posting floral meditations and doing live videos that are always so calming & wholesome."
Modo Yoga @modoyoga - "I've also been loving the live yoga sessions they've been posting on their Instagram everyday."
Danaka - Farmers' Market Coordinator & Assistant Banquet Manager
Happy Color - a colour by numbers app. "It sounds funny but it actually makes you so calm and is just very peaceful"
Cara Loren @caraloren- "A blogger that I love! She's a fashion blogger and also posts lots of at home fitness!"
Connor - Pastry Chef
Hummingbird High @hummingbirdhigh - "An at home dessert & baking blogger that I follow!"
Lianna - Marketing Coordinator
Mom Brain - "I'm a big fan of podcasts (and also a fan of Daphne Oz) and enjoy tuning out without staring at a screen sometimes. This podcast touches on lots of interesting parenting and lifestyle topics!"
Spotebi - "I'm not currently using this site as I'm pregnant, but it's a fitness website that I love! They offer a huge selection of at home work outs that require little or no equipment. My favourite part is that each workout has a timer that tells you when to start & stop each exercise. I found it very manageable and approachable for someone that doesn't want to spend a lot of time exercising."
Emily - Line Cook
Dishing Up the Dirt @andreabemis - This is a blog I visit quite often. It is filled with suggestions on when and how to prepare fresh produce, as well as farm to table recipes. Working at Pineridge Hollow has made me realize that produce tastes best when it is eaten fresh at peak time and Dishing up the Dirt has encouraged me to showcase our in-season ingredients through gourmet dishes in our restaurant. Here are a few recipes I liked!
Zucchini Salad with Corn, Squash Blossoms & Feta
Garlic Scape & Morel Mushroom Pizza
Radish Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Dressing
Alyssa - Banquet Manager
Wordscapes - "I like to keep my mind busy with games and walks with my dog."
FitOn - "Free at home workouts to keep me moving!"
Jan - Owner
Downshiftology @downshiftology - A great meal prepping & recipe blog featuring healthy, fresh, simple & seasnal ingredients.
My Scandinavian Home @myscandinavianhome - "I love the simplicity of Scandinavian design."
Cyndy - Sales Associate / Designer
A Merry Mishap @amerrymishap - "Jennifer Hagler’s blog is unique creative and inspiring. She has a passion for Scandinavian design with minimal aesthetics. Her ideas for decor translates well into our Prairie lifestye...the openness of fields and sky."
Wit & Delight @witanddelight_ - "Kate Arends blog contains a wealth of information. Her passion for design, blending old and new. She uses classic timeless elements in her home. She also has a focus on lifestyle with her own insight on family and self."
The Ginger Home @thegingerhome - "Amanda and her husband Mark have lovingly renovated their country home. They have created a blog with great DIY ideas for keeping things within a tight budget. This blog also has great ideas for family life with food and lifestyle choices."
Liz Marie Blog @lizmariegalvan - "Liz Marie Galvan has not only created a blog, but has written a book and runs a business related to repurposing. Her style is one of salvaging and creating a home uniquely designed for her love of antiques and all things white. She also shares her personal story and inspiration, walking us through her loss and joys of family."
Bethany - Retail Manager
Buck Naked Kitchen @bucknakedkitchen - "Major meal inspiration. She's a holistic nutritionist, recipe developer and food stylist. She's so creative in her little kitchen in Winnipeg. She loves experimenting and values fresh whole food ingredients. Her recipes are delicious, simple but flavourful and include ingredients that you can find at your local farmers market or grocery store. Cooking for 1 can be a challenge but she inspires me to cook, to discover new flavours and to cook for me even if it's just for 1."
Our Barnes Yard @ourbarnesyard - "I just discovered her and her feed is my little piece of happiness. She shares her love of plants and home DIYs in such a genuine way that I feel like we're friends and we've never met."
Acksanna Witherspoon @spoonforthought - "Is the licensed therapist at This is Fortify in Winnipeg. She's young but shares her story which therapists don't typically do. She's working hard to normalize therapy and is very open about uncomfortable topics. Whenever I'm feeling a little off or have feelings I'm not quite sure to navigate I have often come across something in her feed that puts me right at ease and it's always nice to know I'm not the only one feeling that way."
We hope our list helps you find a new pass time, activity or meal to get excited about! While our lives may feel restricted in this crazy time, it is also an opportunity to be our most thoughtful, creative selves. The time for self care has never been so available to us and we should take this time to seize that for ourselves.
